Aim: To have a complete model of an atom.
Method:
1.Choose an atom to make (between Hydrogen and Neon)
2. Work out how many protons, neutrons, and electrons it has.
3. Hydrogen to Beryllium use the big beads.
4. Boron to Neon use the small beads.
5. Assign protons and neutrons to a particular color bead.
6. Get a ball of blue tac and stick the protons and neutrons to this to make your nucleus.
7. Cut out the appropriate electron shells and draw on the electrons with vivids.
8. Connect the nucleus and electrons shells with a piece of string (use tape to connect)
9. Create a label to go about the model so people know what have created.
Results:
Here is how my model atom turned out.
My model is a Helium model atom as shown on the sign.
Discussion:
On the sign that says He for helium, there are two numbers these numbers are the Atomic and Mass number. The Atomic is the smallest of the two numbers this number shows how many protons and electrons are in the atom. The bigger of the two numbers is called the mass number this shows how many neutrons and protons are in the atom.
How many protons electrons and neutrons are there in my atom? since my atomic number is two this means that I have two protons and two electrons. How I find out how many neutrons there are is by doing a little bit of math since the number of protons is two and the mass number is two we need to find out how many more neutrons we need to make four since most people know a bit of math we could tell that the number of neutrons is two as well.
What is an electron arrangement? For this, we only need the number of electrons of this atom we only have two. In the electronic arrangement, there is several electrons shell in the first shell only two electrons in the shell. in the second shell, there is allowed to have eight electrons. in the next shell and all shells after this, there is allowed a max amount of eight electrons in an electron shell. So for this atom, I only need one electron shell with two electrons on it.
Two facts on my atom. This atom has the same amount of neutrons as electrons and protons because I have two protons, two electrons, and two neutrons. My atom's atomic symbol is He is means Helium and it is the second atom in the periodic table. The mass number is inside the nucleus.
Conclusion:
Did my atom work: My atom shows what an atom looks like and how it works as it has everything needed to show what an atom looks like. This also shows the number of protons, electrons, and neutrons that He (helium) has.
What would I do differently: I would try and harder and bigger atom as the one I made was fairly easy with little challenge. Next, I would also try to make it look a bit tidier as it looked old and broken.
