Heart dissection

Hi Guys!

What have we been learning about? We have been learning about the circulatory system. So we got to dissect a heart. We also found out that the heart works at a figure 8 circuit

Why did we dissect a heart? To be able to understand what it does and see it in person.

What are the parts of the hearts? Atrium brings in blood for the body and lungs, Ventricle pushes blood around the body, Septum splits the heart in half. Valve lets blood into the heart. Did I see them I could see every thing except the atrium.

Did you enjoy the dissection? Yes because it was cool to look inside of the heart.

Cheese Scones

INGREDIENTS
  • 3 cups Edmonds standard flour
  • 6 tsp Edmonds baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • extra milk
  • 75g butter
  • 1 to 1½ cups Meadow Fresh milk, approximately
  • 1 cup cheese/120g
  • 1 spring onion
METHOD

  1. Preheat the oven to 220ºC. Grease or flour a baking tray.
  2. Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt into a bowl. Rub in the butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add cheese to the mixture and rub until distributed evenly.
  3. Cut spring onions to small pieces and mix into the dough
  4. Add the milk and quickly mix with a round-bladed table knife to a soft dough. For light and tender scones the mixture should be quite soft and a little sticky. Scrape the dough onto the floured baking tray and flour the top.
  5. Working quickly, pat the dough out to 2cm thickness and with a floured knife cut it into 12 even-sized pieces, then separate the scones to allow 2cm space between them. Brush the tops with milk and sprinkle with cheese.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Place on a wire rack to cool, wrapped in a clean tea towel to keep them soft.

Angles and movement shots

Shot 1:
High angle - makes the character 'other Wybie" look smaller weak and vulnerable.
POV- Other mother - dominant and powerful
Medium shot - gives us some idea of background but not full.
Audience feels  - Powerful we are looking down on through the other mothers POV.
- Sad/worried for Wybie - he looks small, sad, innocent.
-First character in the world to suggest something is not right.
Directors Purpose - make us feel sorry for Wybie
- make audience think that maybe the other mother isn't so nice - foreshadowing.

S: statement
E: Evidence
X: Explanation
X: Explanation
X: Explanation
Y: Your Link

In the shot with the other Wybie and the other mother, High angle shots were used effectively to show the theme "looks can be deceiving". This is demonstrated through a high angle shot from thee point of view of the Other Mother. She is looking down the front porch steps at a scared other Wybie. This makes the audience feel sorry for Wybie and makes the Other Mother seem powerful. The purpose of this scene was to make the audience think that maybe the Other Mother isn't so nice after all. Combined with the use of lighting, Wybie is in a warm light but surrounded by darkness, The director has created a atmosphere of caution, something is not right. This reminds the viewer of a later scene were Coraline is looking up at the Other Mother in horror as she throws her threw a magical portal into a locked room, this show that looks can be deceiving because the other mother wasnt nice like Coraline first thought.

Shot 2:
Dutch tilt - This makes Coraline look weak and makes us fells like Coraline is being stalked.
POV - The doll / "Other Mother" - creepy and watched.
Mid long shot - Gives a creepy feel to a normal world.

Coraline workshop 1 unpacking themes and ideas

Theme/Idea: Is something that links throughout the story.
Looks and be deceiving:
-Things aren't always what they seem.

Example 1: The beldam/The other mother
- She starts off as good/kind but is revealed to be an evil soul devouring metal spider demon.
- Shows theme because the other mother changes gradually over time so that Coraline and audience don't notice
- Important to the story because helps the audience understand Coralines choice when she realises that having everything perfect wont make her happy.

Example 2: The other world vs Real world
- The other world is a perfect web/trap to catch Coraline whereas the real world is boring but safe.
- Shows theme because even though the other world seems better in every way, the real world is actually better/safer because is isn't a trap.
- Important to help audience understand why Coraline goes back to the real world

Sexxxy paragraph
S: Statement - In Coraline, Themes and Idea are used effectively
E: Evidence - For instance, the theme "looks and be deceiving" is shown through the character of the "Other Mother". The "Other Mother" starts off nice, but is revealed to be a soul devouring demon.
X: eXplanation (audience): This makes the audience fell that we shouldn't trust things or people that seem perfect at first glance.
X: eXplanation Director: This was done to make the audience feel weary or develop a sense of caution towards new situation.
- Coinciding with this is the use of colour to show the 'Other Mother' is becoming more evil. At the start she is surrounded by warm colours that makes us feel safe, But by the end it is dark with neon green which her seem dangerous.
Y: Your link: this theme is also shown through the changes through the "other world" as it is revealed to be a spider web designed to catch Coraline.

For this recipe we did our mise en play with all the ingredients like always do this is because it then is quicker and easier to put together:

We sifted all the dry ingredients into a bowl so there is no clumps of flour or anything like that left in the recipe:

The next thing we work on was our egg and sugar the key for this is to whisk until light and fluffy:

Once that is done put in the egg mix and the milk to the dry mix then fold until a batter appears:
Heat the pan on a medium heat and butter pan lightly after start making your pikelets (dont make them too big):

After cooked put it in a warm spot or keep warm until eaten:

Speed Stacks

Hi Guys!

Today in class we were learning about speed stacks.
Rules: you have to start at one end and work your way over to the other end and to take your stack down you have to start from the end you started at.

My times:
for the 3x3 I got a time of 6 seconds.
for the 3 6 3 I got a time of 6.3 seconds which is pretty much the same as the 3x3.

Those are the videos we learnt how to stack with.
