Ecotourism

 Eco-Tourism:

What is Eco-Tourism:

Eco-Tourism is when people are traveling around to natural areas to keep the environment clean and to help improve the well-being of the local people. This is important because if this wasn't a thing the earth would be in a far worse condition. We need ecotourism because it's a boost to our environment and it makes the places look better and become safer for humans to visit or for the animals to stay. This is working as nowadays when people do this they are getting to go on a holiday and cleaning up the environment well doing so. Ecotourism is used heaps in native areas as the point of it is to create respect for the environment. This is very important for the environment.

Why is it a growing trend?

Ecotourism is a growing trend and industry because many people are wanting to both help keep the environment safe and see new sites at the same time. Ecotourism is good and it is hugely important that more people are getting into eco-tourism. People are getting into eco-tourism more and it is having a big positive impact on our planet. This is great because flights and ways of transport to these destinations are getting cheaper and more common to buy. There is also the great fact that the people are wanting and are able to get joy out of it and it makes them feel better and feel eco friendly. This is huge and it is great to see more people are getting into eco-tourism.

How tourism helps our ocean?

Ecotourism is helping our ocean and it is something that is great for the rest of the world too. This is very important because if we save our oceans it could help with things like pollution. They are doing a lot to help our planet including our ocean. They are getting people from all over the world to come to places to help fix our ocean as it is a huge issue. This is very cool because it's great that they are getting many people from different countries to come and they all know the same issues as our ocean. They are trying to help with all of the ocean issues like cleaning up the rubbish that we dump as it's damaging our land on earth. We need more people to help clean our ocean like eco-tourism.

Wind Racers

Aim: To make a working wind racer.

Method:

Step 1:

Get the metal rod or bamboo stick and put it into your trolly this is your mask.

step 2:

Put down 3 pieces of cardboard into a triangle shape. Fill in the center of the triangle with paper to make your sail.

step 3:

Connect your sail to your mask using tape.

Step 4:

Add more paper to add extra support.

Step 5:

Using two popsicle sticks make a smaller mask.

Step 6:

repeat steps 2 and 3 to a smaller scale but use a plastic bag and connect the two masts using string.

Results:

(My Image coming soon)

(this is not mine so here is something similar.)

Discussion: When we were making these wind races we had to make sure that the wind it could pick up would have enough thrust to push our racer further ahead than the other wind racers. We had made two sails so that there was enough air to push it further ahead even with the drag force in place to make our racer stop at some point. Lift and weight didn't have as much of an effect in this task but because it was on the ground I would assume that there was more gravity and weight force in place.

Conclusion:

Our wind racer did work and we ended up coming 2nd but we won a prize for the most creative. Next time what we would do is make the 2nd mask stronger and add more paper and things to collect the air and push ours further and into first. I second we did a really good job and this shows how the forces are there and come into play.

Overfishing (Lawyer Paragraph)

Overfishing is becoming a huge problem for us humans. This is very bad as we are running out of these basic resources that we need to survive. Overfishing also is bad for the sea life in the ocean as it can cause extinction in some fish and overpopulation in other fish. Currently, places all over the world are having to put restrictions in place to stop overfishing. This is also causing pollution as more commercial fishing ships are going in and they are leaving their trash and are warming up the ocean. This causes things like the ice caps to melt and is an impact on heating up the ocean. Overfishing is and will continue to be a huge issue if something doesn't change and this can have a huge impact on our ocean and planet.

Fitness

What does being physically fit mean:

To be in a state of fitness and wellbeing makes you healthy. This can be done by going for walks, run, or playing sports. The body's ability to work efficiently, and effectively in work and leisure activities, be healthy, resist disease, and react to emergency situations.

What makes you physically unfit: Body (Breaking bones, being sit) Not eating healthy, Smoking and drugs.

The Respiratory System

- This system is basically the lungs which are responsible for the absorption of oxygen into the bloodstream and expelling carbon dioxide from the body.

- This occurs by breathing air into and out of the lungs.

- The oxygen moves from a high concentration (the air we breathe in) to a low concentration in the blood. This is scientific terms is called osmosis.

- Carbon dioxide moves in the opposite direction.

- Oxygen is vitally important to the human body as it is a major ingredient required to produce energy in the muscles.

Lungs:

--- Respiratory system:

- Brings oxygen into the body.

- It allows us to exhale carbon dioxide from our body.

The heart is basically a pumping station and pumps blood around the body and is made up of 4 chambers.

This pumping action creates what we know as our pulse.

The blood travels around the body in vessels called:

Arteries: Arteries have a muscular wall and takes blood away from the heart.

Arterioles: Small arteries

Capillaries: This is where nutrients and gases are exchanged.

Venuoles: Small vans

Veins: Veins don't have a muscular wall but have valve-like structures which prevent blood from flowing backward and takes blood to the heart.

The blood carries gasses and nutrients to the body and takes away waste products such as carbon dioxide.

Margaret Mahy: Memory reflection

 25/5/21

Book: Memory

Author: Margaret Mahy

Ideas:

25/05 - believing stories = growth mindset/ resilience - grief [Dr. Lucy Hone]

Early in the novel, Mahy writes of Jonny, 'For Jonny, imaginary things, once properly imagined, could grow as powerful and lucid as if they were true. He had always been the victim of stories, not only other people's but his own as well (Chapter 1). What are some of these stories that Jonny is a victim of?

Jonny’s family and friends are always saying that he will be a failure or that he will end up living back at home. Jonny began drinking to get out of the fact that he believes the same as them and he is a shadow of his sister. His dad said that he will be back once Jonny left him and moved out because he didn't believe in Jonny. Although he hasn't become that great he still has shown resilience as he's proved them wrong and continues to fight the thoughts he has.

Memory:

Task- explain how MM is poetic with 2 [new] examples from the text.

Margaret Mahy is not only a writer but a poet, and her prose in this novel is one of its most outstanding qualities. Her descriptions are always succinct. For example, she describes the drunk Jonny searching the telephone book for Bonny's name:

Margaret Mahy uses poetic terms and writing heaps in her book here is 2 examples of her using these poetic words and writing in the text:
"Janine's as pale as thistle-down, Bonny's the yellowish-brown of certain honey-suckle flowers"
"The sea constantly fretting and complaining on the rocks far below"

Memory:

Ethics: Johnny is helping out an elderly lady by cleaning up for her around her house. In doing so he finds around 500 dollars just lying around and this money is starting to rot. He now has to choose if he wants to take the money and steal it or leave the money even though the lady may to even remember it's there.

If I was johnny I would have left the lady but told her about the money so she doesn't forget it.
What are ethics: Ethics is what you believe is the right thing to do. These are your values.
The bible is another book that teaches values and ethics.
