Volcano - Olympus Mons

Aim
To make a realistic representation of a volcano.

Method
get a 750ml Water Bottle, 
Make PVA glue  by mixing flour, water, and salt (to stop it from molding)
scrunch up balls of paper dipped in PVA glue to shape the volcano
then add strips of paper on top,
make it smooth and then paint it.
Our goal is to make it resemble Olympus Mons on Mars.

Research
Our volcano is on the planet Mars, we chose it because it is the biggest volcano in our solar system, it erupted twenty-five million years ago. The volcano is a shield volcano so the magma slowly flows up and flows down the sides of the volcano.

Discussion: 
The difference between lava and magma: Magma is a very hot liquid and semi rock under the earth's surface while lava is when the magma flows to the earth's surface Magma is the stuff under the tectonic plates and when a volcano is formed by the colliding and the land being forced up. The magma then builds up and escapes and erupts out the top of the volcano onto the earth's crust.
How do volcanos form: Volcanoes form when tectonic plates collide and one goes under the other forcing the land up. Then when there is a magma build-up it erupts out the top of the volcano. these plates are constantly moving because of the magma moving them and when they get too close it can cause many things such as earthquakes and volcanoes.
Conclusion:
Our volcano did work and we got a nice eruption. Our volcano showed what would happen when the lava escapes the volcano. Next time I would make the lava less toxic so we could get closer and see it better. Our volcano was meant to look like Olympus Mons but it ended up rectangular. Next time I would make it more circular and make the color more accurate.
