Definition of dilution: Making something less concentrated. There will be less particles in the liquid.
Concentration: How strong something is.
Aim: To make a dilution series to investigate concentration.
Hypothesis: I think that the first test tube will have the most dilute liquid because it would have more added to it in the start.
Equipment: A potassium permanganate crystal, six large test tubes, tweezers, a plastic transfer pipette, a test tube rack, 10mL measuring cylinder.
What did we do:
1. We put 10ml of water into the first test tubes.
2. Fill the other test tubes with 5ml of water.
3. Put one permanganate crystal into the first test tube.
4. Mix the permanganate in the 10mls of water.
5. Transfer 5mls of water from the first test tube to the second and mix.
6. Move the mixture from the 2nd to 3rd and repeat with the rest.
Was my hypothesis right: Yes it was becasue over time the mixture was more watery and watered down. This makes it more dilute. and the first one was the least dilute.
How do I know how this happen: This happens by the mixture overtime become more dilute as it was moved more into more water.
