Water Filtration Plant

What is filtration?

Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.

Examples are:

  1.  Water filter
  2.  Air filter
  3.  Oil filter
  4. Pool filter

Materials

1. Funnel
2. Container

4. dirty water
5. pebble
6. sand
7. cup

Process - ( use verbs or doing words in each step )

Cut the bottle..... Into two equal halves

Step 2

Put the top half upside down .......  and then put the top half into the bottom half of the bottle

Add layers of... Filter paper that's folded into a cone shape.  Then add sand into the cone shape paper. Lastly, add pebbles at the top of the bottle

STEP 4

Get 1 cup of dirty water ....... That has bark and dirt from your garden.

STEP 5

Pour the dirty water into ...... the bottle with the things that will filter the water.  then wait for the water to drop through.

Findings

Write a short sentence about the water every 1 minute.
Include 'How much water has filtered through', 'How fast it is dripping through', and 'How clear the water is'.

Minutes                          1.                         2.                   3.                    4.                       5.
Drops per minute:  1. The first minute it went quickly 2. The second minute the water slowed down but was still quick fast. 3. For the third minute the water slowed down heaps and it was on drop per three seconds. 4. on the fourth minute it was barely dropping. The fifth minute the water was pretty much all at the bottom of the filter.
Water colour: 1. One the first minute the water was brown. 2. On the second minute, the water was a lighter brown. 3. For the third minute, the water was starting to look see through. 4. On the fourth minute, the water was a yellowish colour. 5. On the fifth minutes, the water was still yellowish but the water was now see through.
Conclusion:
We learned that you use filter heaps and you don't even know it. The filter we made worked but didn't get everything out. The colour of the water was a yellow see-through colour. Even though our filter didn't work we still learned how a filter works.
