30 sec film challenge

Hi Guys
Recently in class we have been making a small 30 second film in a group.
In my group there was Chris, Benjamen, lincoln, and I.
Our video is about a student who snuck into the learning commons on a fine day. Here is my film

What was our film about?  Our film was about a junior who was trying to sneak into the learning commons.

Something I enjoyed in making my film... I enjoyed getting to film some of the scenes.

Something I learned when making my film... I learned about were to be for us to get the full effect of the scene.

Some film techniques I included were... Panning, long shots, high tilt, and low angle shots.

Something I found challenging was trying to help with the transportation of the files.

What I would do differently next time... I would film some of the scenes differently.

Character Challenges

Coraline	She had to get her family back from the other mother who was trying to eat her.	She kept on trying to get herself safe and was brave to face them.	That she is brave and never gives up any matter how hard the challenge is.

Creating Characters

1. Looks like normal other with button eyes
- dresses lie the real mother
- softer/rounder edges - hips, head, knees, elbows.
- clothes are basic design, no patterns, cover most of her body.

2. head and nose - pointier/sharp
-sleeves get shorter
-addition of red to color palette
-starting to get beetle shape from apron.
-long baggy pants keep idea of softness.

3. All weight has moved to hips/bum - accents beetle shape of dress.
-red, black, white, pattern, better/tighter fit, more skin showing.
- getting longer and pointier - stretched neck, pointed elbows, shorter hair, pointed head and nose.

4. -scissor/twig like - very skinny
-huge height increase - compared to oven.
-pointy head
-high heels
-full black outfit - red shoes
-little/no fat left on body, lots of skin showing.

5. - skinless, needle like, no face, paper thin.
-has grown extra legs
-looks alien - not human like

Brainstorm: Colour and lighting
Whats happening - Coraline and her parents having breakfast in the real kitchen - They look depressed, dull, lifeless.
Technique:
- lighting - cold - natural - from cloudy window - dull
- Colours - cold, washed out, faded, muted. - Off white, creams and yellows.

Effect on viewer (feel/think) - boring, don't want to be there. - boring, dull, lifeless.

Directors purpose (theme) - Set the that real world is boring and empty - makes the other world more appealing. - Looks can be deceiving - is not actually bad place to be.

Other techniques (costumes/shots/music/setting) - Costume - real parents in simple plain colours and fabrics in dull colours.

Picture 2:

Whats happening - Coraline and other parents having dinner in the other kitchen. - Characters seem vibrant and appealing. - good food on offer.

Technique: Lighting - artificial- ceiling light-bulb warm - yellowish tone, dull- parts of room still in shadow.
Colours - yellow/oranges/black palette - warm - makes feel safe / comfortable.

Effect on viewer - happy, want to be there - welcoming, colourful, joyful.

Directors purpose - looks can be deceiving - looks nice but in reality it is unsafe. Make Coraline feel comfortable - huge improvement on real world.

Other technique - costume - colourful, friendly looking, lots of black/red - more fashionable, comfy, warm.

In the other kitchen scene colour and lighting were used effectively. For example, the colours in the kitchen are natural, dull, cold, with a creamy plain boring whites and yellows.

Heart dissection

Hi Guys!

What have we been learning about? We have been learning about the circulatory system. So we got to dissect a heart. We also found out that the heart works at a figure 8 circuit

Why did we dissect a heart? To be able to understand what it does and see it in person.

What are the parts of the hearts? Atrium brings in blood for the body and lungs, Ventricle pushes blood around the body, Septum splits the heart in half. Valve lets blood into the heart. Did I see them I could see every thing except the atrium.

Did you enjoy the dissection? Yes because it was cool to look inside of the heart.

Today in class we were learning about arthritis.

Here is my work:

What are the causes of arthritis? Most forms of arthritis are thought to be caused by a fault in the immune system that causes the body to attack its own tissues in the joints. This may be inherited genetically.

Can everyone get arthritis? No not everyone gets arthritis but that doesn’t mean everyone gets it. Who is most likely to get arthritis? Women are more likely to get arthritis you are also more likely to get arthritis if you are obese.

What are the two most common types of arthritis? osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Ways to prevent arthritis? Stay at a healthy weight, control your blood sugar, Exercise, and Stretch.

How is arthritis treated? rest, occupational or physical therapy, exercise, drugs, and sometimes surgery to correct joint damage.

The hand:

How the hand moves: The tendons are pulled when the hand wants to move.
How many bone are in your hand: there are 14 finger bones in your hand.
The muscles you use are in your arm and forearm.
How tendons work: They work by pulling the bone back so that you can move your hands.
What the ligaments do: the ligaments attach the bones together.

Coraline notes

Opening scene:
Music: creepy, and quite. It says dreaming repeatedly. starts quite. slow music.
perspective: Other mothers P.O.V. - we see her needle hands and through her eyes.
Shots: a close shot of the doll. It was used to make the doll the main part. there was an extreme close up of the eye being sewn in.
Lighting and color: The lights were dark and timed down. The lights were green and dim and faded. This was to set a creepy mode. It feels old and abandoned, unappealing, and run down.

Setting: Pink palace real world. It starts raining and a storm starts.
Music: Happy, gentle, and old. The words were made up. Sung by children. It starts to build tension and builds drama.
Shot: high angle. It makes Coraline weak.

Coraline: Moody, Sassy, Stubborn. She wears bright clothes. Bright. Yellowjacket and boots. The colors make us focus on her.

Colors and lighting: Dull, Bland, Grey, dark, tinted. Make the "real" house feels sad, old, and crusty. It is old and depressing.

"Real" parents: dull, boring, They work a lot, Sad, don't have time for Coraline, not happy, tired.

Shots: Dutch tilt: something bads about to happen. P.O.V. of the doll's eye.


The "other" world:
Colors and lighting: Bright and colorful. Welcoming. Coraline is the same brightness as everyone
"Other" parents: Bright and nice. Coraline's attention matters.
Music: Spooky, sad, and creepy. Minor. Off.

The "Real" neighbors
Color: Gray, dark, mournful, sad color palette, foggy, washed out, dusty
Lighting: dark/gloomy - inside the house, cold light, shabby, dark.
Music: Bland, background, medium pace, upbeat, Latin style.
setting: forest, looks dead, the house is old, rustic, rundown. Basement, dated.
Characters: Bobinsky, (drunk), awkward, weirdo. Miss Spink and Forcible, they argue, opposites but like the same things, actress, Old fashioned, confident, attention seekers. Coraline doesn't like them but they are better than nothing.

The "other" neighbors:
Colours: bright, light, friendly, welcoming. Good dark, shiny, Vibrant.
Lighting: warm light - Orage/yellow. warm, spotlights are bright.
Music: loud, joyful, circus music, playful, minor, energetic
Setting: New, alive, fresh, clean, organized. Theater. grand
Characters: Bobinsky,  tall, healthy, tidy, done up, nice, kind, knows Coraline's name correctly. Miss  Spink and Forcible, Young, transformed, thin, attractive talented, acrobats, modern. Coraline likes them.

The Beldam:
Colours: Green, Dark, Colourful, Purple/pink, fades to white
Lighting: Dark, cold, unsafe, horrific.
Music: Slower, quite, menacing, creepy, spooky, other world, suspicious.
Setting: chocolate and furniture were bettles, sinister, transformed from the perfect home to a spider web, polluted.

3. Coraline played a game with the beldam for her and her family's lives.
4. The beldam makes the other world look very good and tempting.
5. She meets lots of people once she moved into the pink palace.

Language of film

Hi Guys.

Today in class for English we were looking at different words used. these words are:

Body Language: Body Language is a form of communication witch can show you how the charter or someone is feeling.

Costumes: Something worm to get more into character with what they are trying to look like.

Hairstyles: Thee way someone does their hair. It can also affect how they are seen.

Make-Up: Something you wear to make you look good and can change your skin tone to lighter and darker or to make you look more into costume.

Colour: They make it look more bright and realistic.

Lighting: Used to highlight or make something more seen.

Props: Something that a character uses on stage to help with staying in character

Settings: The time of date or time it is in the film.

Dialogue: When two or more people talk and converse.

Sound Effects: This is used to make more realistic sounds.

Music: Music is a nice noise played when they switch scenes.

Silence: when there is no sound at all.

Symbols: Sings or things in the film.

Special FX: To make things look better and can affect the view of the scene.
